FREE SERVICES

SENIOR CITIZENS LEGAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM
Appointments are available on the Third Thursday of every month, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Orange County residents age 60 or older.
By appointment; in person only.

CYPRESS CARES TELEPHONE VISITS
Cypress Cares Telephone Visits (Telephone Reassurance Program) are available on a regular basis to seniors who want someone to check on their well-being or want to hear a friendly voice. For more information call Joan Bardin at (714)229-2005.

HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING & ADVOCACY PROGRAM (HICAP)
Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) is a volunteer supported program that provides free counseling and educational services for older adults and their families. You will receive unbiased information to help you make the best choices for your individual health care needs, including:

PHCA is funded by the County of Orange and the California Department of Public Health and is part of a statewide network of programs providing services to low income and ethnic minority seniors who have limited access to health care. Basic health screenings are provided by a Public Health Registered Nurse for those over the age of 50. Health Assessments include: health history, nutrition history, pulse, height/weight, skin, oral/dental examinations, vision screening, urine screen, colo-rectal screening, hemoglobin/blood sugar testing, hearing test and special screening clinics. Appointments are available once a month, please call (714) 229-2005 to schedule an appointment.
HOME DELIVERED MEALS

Meals delivered to homebound adults in Cypress, ages 60+, who are unable to
shop for groceries or prepare meals. Call the Center or call Community Senior Serv at
(714) 226-0550 for more information.

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED TO DELIVER MEALS.
HOMEOWNER and RENTER ASSISTANCE (HRA)

HRA is a once-a-year payment from the State of California based on part of the property taxes assessed and paid on your home or the property taxes that you pay indirectly when you pay rent. Income, age and other qualifications apply.

Applications may be filed for the calendar year 2007 beginning July 2008. Volunteers, trained by the Franchise Tax Board, will be available to assist starting in July. Call (714)229-2005 for more information.

MATURE DRIVING COURSES

DMV Certificate of Completion provided upon completion of an eight-hour course with potential discount on California auto insurance. Course is offered in a 2 day class held from 1 – 5pm each day. Attendance on both days is required for certificate of completion. Upcoming classes: April 7 and 8, May 5 and 6, June 2 and 3. To register please call the Senior Center at 714-229-2005.
