The City of Cypress has contracted with All-American Asphalt to construct new landscaped medians along Moody Street, from Lincoln Avenue to Cerritos Avenue. The project will replace the existing striped medians with a landscaped median which includes approximately 160 trees, 10,000 shrubs, and 72,000 square feet of water efficient landscaping and irrigation. In addition to visual enhancement, the new landscaped medians will provide a physical barrier between opposing traffic directions, make it easier to identify lanes and turn pockets, and provide safe locations for future signage. Additionally, the project provides 7 foot bike lanes and maintains all existing, legal turning movements at each intersection.
This is a multi-year project which was first introduced as part of the City's Fiscal Year 2008-09 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The landscape concept was presented to City Council at the workshop of March 9, 2009, and to the community during a community meeting held on May 14, 2009. City Council approved plans on October 25, 2010 and awarded construction of the project on March 28, 2011.
The City of Cypress views the Moody Street Beautification Project as an important Public Works project beneficial to the community. Your cooperation during all phases of construction will be necessary for the safe and successful completion of the project. Work is scheduled to start mid-September 2011 and will be completed in January/February 2012, weather permitting.
To minimize impacts to the public, all work will be done between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please note that there will be limited traffic and access along Moody Street during construction of this project.
Additionally, a few areas of sidewalk, curb and gutter, and driveways may be closed during construction. Your patience and cooperation in observing all traffic controls, parking restrictions, and traffic control workers will be sincerely appreciated and will help in expediting the construction work.
For your SAFETY and the safety of your family and visitors, please stay away from equipment and construction areas. Please keep your children from harm and instruct them to stay clear of all construction activities. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a quick and successful project completion.
