Incorporated on July 24, 1956, Cypress ws originally named Dairy City and had a population of 1,616 residents and 24,000 cows. Cypress was a leader in the dairy industry having the third largest dairy district in the United States. Today, Cypress continues to be an industry leader having a thriving population of 49,647 and setting the standard as a premier business location in Orange County and surrounding region. Businesses, tourists and residents choose Cypress for it's many amenities and quality services - from having the 2nd highest ranked high school in the nation to our 600 acre master planned business park. Our emphasis on quality infrastructure, outstanding recreation/community services, and progressive policing practices make Cypress an ideal location.
Cypress is 6.61 square miles in size and strategically located in the Mid-Counties market area, located in western Orange County and bordered by Los Angeles County. With four freeways adjacent to Cypress, access to regional points of business, entertainment and culture are only minutes away.
The City of Cypress has been a destination point for a divers array of well known companies for many years. Companies like Vans Corporation, United Health Group, Fuji Film USA, Inc., Mary Kay Inc., Sika Sarnafil Inc., Yamaha Motor Corporation USA, Mitsubishi Motors, Bandai America Inc., Christie Digital Systems USA and Siemens Medical Solutions call Cypress home.
The demand continues with new compainies like Premier Displays & Exhibits, Kato Spring of California, Fresh Enterprises, Vertex Standard, Evergreen Shipping Agency, Focus Diagnostics Inc., Manhattan Beachwear LLC, International Expo Service, Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas, Inc., Nitto Tire USA, Inc., Shaw Industries selecting Cypress Cypress as their global headquarters.
Our 600 acre business park, with approximately six million square feet of industrial space and over two million square feet of office space, is strategically situated at the western edge of Orange County adjacent to Loas Angeles County. With is close proximity to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, as well as the Los Angeles, Orange County and Long Beach Airports, Cypress Provide and ideal location for serving businesses and consumers throughout Southern California and beyond.
When it comes to an educational system, Cypress scores at the top its class. Our K-6 students, served by the Cypress School District, have annual average API Test Scores of 860. This is the 2nd highest in Orange County.
Our two high schools, Cypress High School and Oxford Academy, served by the Anaheim Union High School District, lead the region in 2008 with average API Test Scores of 843 and 983, respectively.
Our schools not only set the pace in region, they rank among the top in the nation. U.S. News & World Report ranked the Oxford Academy as the No. 2 high school in the nation in 2008. The Oxford Academy has also received accolades from Newsweek Magazine. Attendance at Oxford Academy requires an application process.
Cypress College is another wonderful example of the emphasis placed on our local educational system. The College offers 58 Full-Credit Programs, 141 Career Certificate Programs, and 51 Associate of the Arts Degree Programs.
